Re: Clarify

Hi Steve,

I believe in full disclosure before, during and after!

8000+/- All Paid with or through PayPal

As to email receipts......... from your own personal list, sure; however, you will get more remove requests than receipt verifications! Still, might not be such a bad idea, as your list will shrink with every mailing; but, you can be assured those that comply are "a priori" members! Bigger is not better! Highly focused and targeted is!

To initially build that list, the shotgun approach has some value, so in answer to other safelists:

I have one on my home page at the bottom right, the link text is 'free safelist', that link will take you to MadVlad. Over the years, it is the only free safelist to actually get results for me, and I have tried them all!

Also, I have one submitter on the home page; it is there because many of my members asked if I could recomment one. It is not a strong recommendation; but, after researching many, many, many of them, this one seems to be the best bet.

If a person uses a safelist, that person is an "entrepreneur type"!

If I can help, I will........ email me and we will get it done!

Fw: Place Website Billboard on top of Google, Yahoo and MSN...

LOL,

I received this message earlier today. Thank goodness it was not on SafeLists. I suspect most everyone with an active website will get this message very soon. The subject made me go and look. In a way, it is true; if you use their toolbar with ie or firefox, you banner will be displayed at the top when your keyword is typed. I guess the question is: Just how many toolbars are in use? I have left enough information for you to find the site if you like. I removed the hyperlinks; this is information, not advertising.

GaltLists.com

First and foremost, GaltLists is a classic safelist. That is to say, individuals and businesses join and agree to receive email offers; inorder, to send email offers. All who join, must confirm and verify both their list email address and their contact email address. This process is known as double opt-in and eliminates any and all spam complaints. Spam in any form is absolutely forbidden and this includes the GaltLists staff! In fact: We do not email our members with any marketing or advertising offers at all; we do email the members if an update to the system is scheduled or if an improvement or benefit has been added to the safelist. Of course, if a member emails us; we will respond promptly and professionally. Our response will address their topic and nothing else other than the social amenities.

GaltLists is live! The above is an exerpt from the home page.

Gentlemen

Grudd.com
Let your website be seen by over 500,000 visitors a month!

Gentlemen,

This statement is misleading at best and a total falsehood at worst! Your advertising is the same. My server logs do not show a single visitor from you since inception. Furthermore, you did not state or imply the charge was recurring. Stop this subscription now and refund all monies paid to date! This is nothing but a scam!

Ignoring this message or failing to comply will not make me go away. I will continue as long as it takes!

Re: How Many Times

Phil,

You have me at a disadvantage, SafeLists does not have a Phil Mitchell? From your email, I suspect you may have joined MadVlad. Is that the case? Regardless, let's see if I can help.

You site is a bit like walking a tight rope. I have no idea what to do. So I have been clicking everything.

1)  How many emails went out when I clicked "Regular emailer"?
900
2)  How do I put a link into my emails?
Regular mailer just type the link; example: http://www.safelists.us and the script will transform it. HTML mailer, same way, unless you want a descriptive tag and then you would type it in in html code; example: <a href=http://www.safelists.us>SafeLists</a>
3)  Do you have a saved email section, or do I have to keep copying & pasting old emails every time I want to send an email?
No, Vlad does not have a saved message area in the regular mailer. I am not sure in the html mailer.
4)  Do you automatically place the recipients name into the email?
No. Vlad's sent "regular mailer" messages have the safelist name as the "from line" . Html, I am not sure.

Hope this helps!

Bryan

Bryan,

SafeLists is an integral member of a network of safelists, so the affiliate program you joined is not SafeLists.us specific. I have kicked the thought around of starting my own program; but, at this time I have not. I expect you have noticed that some pages do not look like they are mine. They are not; they are maintained by the network; as the affiliate program is.

I broke away almost as soon as I purchased my site! I use the network, so that my members will have the full database to mailto; but, that is where the similarity ends. I didn't like the idea that my members were automatically being added to an additional database and I didn't relish the idea that my site was a clone of hundreds, maybe thousands of others. So I discarded the stock site and built my own from scratch. It took some time as I had never done this before; but, it worked and I feel a lot better about what I offer. My site is unique within the network and nobody is arbitrarily added to that second database. In fact, on my FAQ page, you will find a Global Remove link that will remove you from the entire network! Took some time to find that boy; but, it's there and anyone is free to use it. My contribution to eliminating "legal spam" if you like.

I have given a lot of thought to adding an additional database of own! Big difference, only my members could mail to it and by using it, they do not become a part of it! That will come when I break totally away! Of course, my members would still be a part of the membership database and send and receive accordingly; but, the addtional database would allow sends only with no receives.

There is a lot to do to set up an independent safelist and believe me a mailto only database of a million or so is not cheap. I have taken some of the not so obvious steps: my own hosting being one of the big ones. I can now set up any one of my members with a safelist site and link them right into the network; but,  I have not done it, because it just wouldn't be right. Sort of like stealing and that is not me.

As to the question: You will have to re-enter and mail whichever offer you want to send every day. This actually is a good thing as your offer will get stale after just a few mailings. This is not in the Tips; but, you should have three (3) killer Subjects and three (3) variations of your offer! They don't have to be totally different; but, presented in slightly different ways to avoid stagnation.

Hope this answers your questions and forgive me for telling you a lot more than you wanted to know!

Lou

Please Read This

For the record, I own and operate SafeLists.us and for the most part, almost every offer that is sent is doomed. The reason is preparation! Three components of every offer must be just right. They are:

    the From Line - Username
    the Subject Line
    the Offer - Message Body

Some safelists [mine is one] use the members Username as the From Line. This is one of the first things a potential client sees. It must be credible! I always recommend using your real name. When I mail my own list, my username is Lou_Smith. It tells everyone, the message is from me and increases the likelyhood the message will be read.

The Subject Line is critical. It must be concise and it must be representative of the offer - Nothing crazy or outlandish; just factual!

The Offer must be short and sweet. Don't waste the readers time with dialogue! Give them a chance to go to your site on the first line, then a short paragraph expanding the subject is optimal. End with another chance to go to your site.

Safelist Success Guidelines goes into these components in more detail. You are welcome to use it.

I'm Disappointed!

Today, I did a search for the term "safelists" on Google, this was the #4 result.

PlaceHolder for safelists.com
This is the placeholder for domain safelists.com. If you see this page after uploading site content you probably have not replaced the index.html file. ...
www.safelists.com/ - 1k - Cached - Similar pages

For this domain to appear in results, casts serious doubts as to the relevancy of Google search. Seems that Googles algorithym has shifted back to age of domain without regard to content!

Sad!

Cookies - How to enable in various browsers

Mr. Bogue

Mr. Bogue,

I hope the previous email helped. Perhaps, I should carry this a bit further and offer some additional advice. If you would prefer me just go away, I will, just tell me. No hard feelings!

I want you and all the group to join a specific free safelist? Click here: www.safelists.us and go to the bottom of the page and click "free safelist". Sign up for a free membership! You will be able to send every 48 hours. You will receive many emails, so make sure your list email is not your primary or your PayPal address or important in any way; a new online yahoo address is usually ok.

OK, when this is done, you are ready to mail..... NOT!

For one week, read every email you receive and I mean really read them. Look at the From line, Study the Subject line of each and every one! Of the ones that catch your eye, write them down. Adaptations may be useful with your own offer. Next read the offers, does the subject concisely reflect the offer? It MUST! Does the offer contain more than one offer? It MUST NOT! One offer only! Two or more offers will present too many choices and you will lose all. As mentioned before; read Safelist Success Guidelines and take it to heart. Your offers will not succeed if you don't do everything just right!

When an email hits your inbox or yours hits someone elses, almost everyone that you have a chance to sell will scan the offerings AND it is a quick scan! If your SUBJECT line does not stand out from the rest, you don't have a chance! It has to STAND OUT!

You offer has to stand out as well and if the offer doesn't match the Subject.... good bye. They have to match one another! This is important: Let's say they match; now, you must give them the opportunity to go straight to your site!!!! Put the url as the first line, so they can click right now! Don't waste their time! After that first line, a couple of very short paragraphs is acceptable and make sure the url separates the paragraphs like this:

URL
Paragraph
URL
Paragraph
URL

That's it, no more. More is not better, Short and concise rules! If you can get by with only one paragraph, do it; but, do not condense two short paragraphs into one long paragraph.

If you write your subject line and your offer this way; you have a chance! Notice, I said a chance; doing everything just right is no guarantee! Now you have to be consistent and you have to be persistent! You must post everytime you can and you cannot post the same Subject line in back to back posts. The offer can stay the same; but, the Subject line must change. Three short, concise and representative subject lines will provide enough difference. Rotate the subject lines from mailer to mailer and you will be ok.

I know this is way beyond the basics; however, it must be done!

Translations

I had such a laugh today. I translated my translated pages back to English. What a hoot! I am almost ashamed I have them. A check of SafeLists serp on various Google international engines produced some interesting results. The French translation is #10 and is the only result on the page using the French language. If I were a Frenchman, I would be disturbed! To rectify this problem, at least in a self-serving way, I have asked a very nice lady from Normandy to convert my English into good, grammatical French. She accepted with obvious enthusiasm! Even with the terrible French, a few noble souls have joined! For them and all the other proud French men and women, SafeLists in its entirety will be done in Good French. Vive la France!

Just had a sign-up who emailed me in Spanish and I had to use the translator to answer. What a joke! Spanish is next! Anybody want to translate some English into Good Spanish?

WCAG AAA Revision

SafeLists home page now reflects the most current update. The revision fully incorporates the W3C's Accessibility Guidelines that can be automatically checked. Most of the manual checkpoints are covered as well.

WCAG AAA Revision will be found at the beginning of the copyright line of the revised pages as I am able to bring them to the new standard.

Visually Challenged Update

The plans are to duplicate the entire site in a format that can be easily read by the visually challenged. My only concern is the possible "Duplicate Content Penalty". I have posted the question in Google Groups and hope to have an answer soon.
One surprising thing I discovered while doing the research for this was: SafeLists had some browser compatibility problems. The index page has been corrected; but, the balance is going to take some time.

Rick Carver

Thank you and welcome to SafeLists! At this point I always recommend reviewing the tips and tools section; however, as this has already been done, were the tips helpful?
I failed to mention another source I personally use to drive more traffic to my site and that's TrafficSwarm. It's the only traffic exchange I have ever used that actually performs. You might want to give that a shot also. I don't have time to earn credits, so I pay them 30 bucks a month; but, the free version if you have the time will give you extra targeted traffic.
I failed to ask you what your businesses were. If you have your own sites, send me the url's. I would like to look at your index pages. Can't promise alot; but, if I see a way to better optimize them for the search engines, I will tell you. My seo is strictly white hat and I will not do anything that a search engine would question.
Again, welcome to the safelist world and thank you again.
Lou
P.S. Don't be a stranger, if you have a question, I may not have the answer; but, I will do my best! LOL

Fw: Questions About How

Subject: Questions About How

Dear Lou Smith,

First I'd like to say that I've been exploring the long and varied list of opt-in and double opt-in safelist companies for quite a while, too long. One part of me says just pick a list and go. Another never just feels right, or safe. So many lead or traffic generating programs seem, well, overwhelming, and alienating. Many do not even answer their mail.

The way you present SafeLists.us is helpful, informing, clean, friendly, easy. Safe enough for me to think that I can write an email and actually have it answered, and in a reasonable way. So here goes.

1. Who puts in the "remove/opt-out" at the bottom of the email, SafeLists.us or me?

2. Does SafeLists.us send my email:

A. using a SafeList.us email sending address
B. do I use my own email address only
C. does SafeList.us modify my sending email address

At this time the sending and receiving address will be different. I will modify my task depending on your response.

I have thought of joining topsafelistbiz.com. Unfortunately, I've let that screen image keep me away. That and I'm so new at all of this business on the net I feel that one step at a time is a reasonable way to go.

Two things got me into all this.
One is the affiliate marketing biz, which I do believe that done right is an extremely good idea. Foolish not to explore that fun and challenging business model.
The other is what I call the PayPal Classic $6. I love it. I call it democratic money. The letter, though generally repetitive keeps appearing in an interesting variety of style and content - actually quite a lot of creativity. Just exploring the letter, learning basic skills like cut, paste, notebood, email tasks, etc. has been interesting. It has certainly taken a lot more than 30 minutes!

So I want to start my net business experience with the PayPal letter, and I like to know what you think about that (if your business ethics so allow).
And if your SafeList.us is a good place to do so. Yes, I've read all your good, readable, informative pages. Sticky, yes.

Once that proves successful, then I'll feel more brave and will venture forth with an affiliate program, and perhaps, following your lead, join topsafelistbiz.com through SafeLists.us, the only safelist company on the web that I actually like.

Thanks for any assistance.

Newbie Exploitation

Hello Everyone,

I was talking to my friend Vlad tonight. We have the same offer running on both of our safelists. He and I agree, it is purely a scheme to exploit newbies. Neither of us can pull the offer as it does not violate any rules and in some small way it could actually help the fledgling webmaster. However; what is being offered is available free, all over the internet. Although, this offer may seem a Godsend at first; when the buyer finds the information is free everywhere.............. they are going to be steamed! Here is the actual ad:

Dear Website Owner,

Now you can submit ALL your webpages to Google
through their Back Door with their full blessings!

Forget Blog and Ping. at least as far as Google
is concerned!  Forget about using Google's own
submission form.  That's the slow way to get
listed.

[C]lick here "url removed" to
[G]et the KEY to Google's back door.

It's easy, fast and very effective! A child could do it.

Check It Out Now! Copy and paste the
URL below into your browser's address bar:
"url removed"

Thank You.

saf2217458

I checked out the site and it is offering an "xml sitemap" generator to produce a google sitemap! Don't get me wrong, a proper xml sitemap will help any web site. BUT, a search on Google, MSN or Yahoo with the search terms of: "free xml sitemap generator" will find any number of resources to make one. In fact, Google actually offers a generator at their site.

Point: Please check out any offer before you buy!

MR:S1:1

MR:S1:1 (the major update) is complete. SafeLists has a new look! Beneath the surface, the code has been enhanced and streamlined and all the pretty pictures have gone away. Safelists has always been fast; but now, WoW! The navigation has been optimized and the overall site is now even more user friendly.

I still have a few code things to implement; but, they will come in the next revision or as I tinker a little every day.

Major Revision

SafeLists is in the beginning stage of a complete revamp. This index page is the first to have all scripts except Google Urchin removed. Additionally, all of the former "eye candy" images have been removed. The only image is the add to favorites at the top right of the page. It is just an image; it contains no link, just information. This revision will allow SafeLists to load even faster than before and eliminate any chance of virus'! Of course, if the revision does not prove to be popular with online searchers; it will revert to the original. As you know, SafeLists has always used valid xhtml 1.0 strict and valid css, and will continue to do so. Please be patient; good code takes time.

SafeLists recorded a Perfect Score for its design at Sitening.

Re: Leonard

Leonard,

http://www.lbg-safelist.com

In the listing forms for the directories, when it asks for Site Title or Site Name; use your primary keywords and keyphrases. I used Googles AdWord Tool to pull your top keywords from your site. These are your top keywords and keyphrases:

  • Opt-In Email
  • Opt-In Email Marketing
  • Opt-In Email Advertising
  • Advertisement
  • Email Advertising
  • Safelist

For branding purposes and to provide a relevant anchor link from the directories, the best titles would be:

  • LBG Safelist: Opt-In Email
  • LBG Safelist: Opt-In Email Marketing
  • LBG Safelist: Opt-In Email Advertising
  • LBG Safelist: Advertising
  • LBG Safelist: Email Advertising
  • LBG Safelist
:    Make sure the colon is in the right place and followed by a space, then the key

Continuing that theme, your descriptions must include the primary keyword/keyphrase in the title. Do not stuff it with all of them, just include the one in the title in a natural, easy to read way. Hold the description to 160 characters including spaces. Do not exceed 160; but, get as close to 160 as you can. Be sure and punctuate correctly, including the period at the end if your description is a grammatically proper sentence.

Most directories ask for keywords, so, use the same ones listed above; like this:

Opt-In Email, Opt-In Email Marketing, Opt-In Email Advertising, Advertisement, Email Advertising, Safelist,

,    Make certain the keys are separated and ended with a comma, including the last one!

Don't get carried away with a particular key as they are all important to your site and your incoming links should reflect all of them equally!

Lou

Milestone Day for SafeLists.us

SafeLists posted its first membership renewal today. SafeLists membership is on a yearly basis and a member renewal is the best testimonial one could hope for. Thank you Raymond Anderson!

SafeLists came online in late June of 2005 with the simple business model: Offer a good product at a good price! That model has not changed and will not. Additional thanks is due also to the major search engines. First page rankings for the keywords safelists, safelist, email marketng safelist, email marketing safelists, safelist email marketing, safelists email marketing and most recently the keywords lista segura and listas segura for SafeLists Spanish version.

On the technical side, thank you Matt! Matt is the chief programmer and has straightened out numerous php coding faux paux's that I have been guilty of!

Hurrah!

About me and my safelist

SafeLists has been good for me. For years, I was the typical join this affiliate program, join that affiliate program and promote like crazy! Crazy is exactly what I was! With one small exception, I never made a dime! I cannot tell you how many nights I saw the sun rise before I had finished posting to every free ad site on the net! I never had a clue there was a better way. Then about 2000, I discovered safelists and the light came on. Now I greeted the dawn after posting to every safelist on the net! I did not have a clue! I did everything wrong! Well, those days are over!

I still post an occasional free ad and I post to safelists; but now, my offers have a chance at being successful. You see, there are 3 critical elements to a successful safelist offer! As I am rambling here, the critical elements are addressed at Tips.

What I need to say here is this: My safelist, SafeLists, relies almost exclusively on search engine traffic! The offers I post now are almost exclusively "Help Topics". I spend time making my sites more search engine visible. The folks that find me are then free to look over my site and hopefully read and take to heart the tips before committing their money. It may be a passive approach; but, SafeLists is growing steadily and almost no one ever deletes an account. Take it from me, offer a good product, at a good price and folks will still beat a path to your door!

How to Successfully Market With Safelists

Copyright 2002 Herman Drost

Opt-in email safelists are one of the best Internet marketing
strategies for getting your product or service immediately in
front of many thousands of people. In this article, I will show you how you can successfully work with them.

Benefits of Opt-in Safelists
1. Email to thousands - this can be done with free safe lists or paid safe lists. Even if you only get a 1% response from thousands, you interact with those that will respond.

2. It’s immediate – you can instantly send your ad and receive an immediate response from those interested. With ezine ads, you often have to wait for days or weeks before your ad is displayed.

3. Test your product or service – safelists are a good place to begin testing your ad, before you spend a lot of money on other advertising methods.

4. Track your ads – track those ads that pull the best. (Some safelists incorporate tracking in their subscriptions). You can then use these same ads repeatedly in other forms of advertising. The key is to have a great headline, because users will be scanning them for what catches their eye.

5. Low cost way of email marketing – this is a much faster,
less expensive way to market than offline marketing. You can reach many more people in a shorter space of time.

6. No fear of spamming or being penalized for spamming – this is because all subscribers are strictly opt-in.

SafeLists: UserName

Safelist Email Marketing

What's in a UserName? You might be surprised!

Username

Your username should be given first priortiy. A username is more than an identifier to a safelist database. It is your identity, your identity to the folks who are your potential clients! When an offer is sent, your user name occupies the From line of the email. In most cases, it is the first thing that your potential client sees! It should convey reality! It should tell who you are! Do not be afraid to use your own name. You are not a fly by night, one trick pony.... you are a real person, with a real business, offering a real opportunity!

Your username "brands" you! Do you want to be Google or do you want to be "the_spammer"? Of course you do not want to be identified as the_spammer, so choose your username to identify you. If you are an individual or sole proprietor, use your name. My name is Lou Smith, username Lou_Smith. Nothing fancy, just "First name underline Last name". Almost always, the first letter of your first name and the first letter of your last name is capitalized, username is no different. The underline is for natural display; because most databases require a one word username. Lou_Smith displays as Lou Smith and gives me instant From line credibility! My potential client knows who I am!

If your online business is incorporated, a proper username is your business name. My business is SafeLists, so I can use "SafeLists" as my username. It is real and it tells what I am. Note the use of capitalization. What is a safelist; it is a safe list, so capitalize S and capitalize L! SafeLists conveys what the business is and assures that the client can mail safely and spam free.

In these two examples of proper usernames another aspect is also in play: Branding! Over time as potential clients see either username, they form the association that SafeLists is Lou_Smith! SafeLists: Subject Line

First of an Email Marketing series from SafeLists by Praetor.

SafeLists: Subject Line: The most important element of a safelist offer.

In email marketing, especially with safelists, the subject line is of the utmost importance! If the subject line does not elicit that "click me" response, it matters little how important the offer. A good subject line first of all is short. Not only is it short, it is explicit! The subject line must be a clear, concise representation of your offer. The subject line must not be hype; safelist members have seen enough of that. Make your subject line:

  • Clear
  • Concise
  • Relevant
  • Eye Catching

Now that you have a subject line that is clear, concise and 100% relevant to your offer, make it eye catching! To do this, put a little white space in front of the subject line. The white space will offset the subject line from the others and make it more likely to catch the readers eye!

Capitalizing the first letter of every word is not recommended and never use ALL CAPS with SafeLists Email Marketing!
